Micro - Preemie Baby Hats

I decided to make micro-preemie sizes of a few of my little hats -
perfect for very early premature babies or Angel babies born too soon.

Micro – Preemie Baby Hats                   

6“ circumference,  3“ high


Jay     ~        Micro - Preemie Baby Hats

Using 4mm needles& DK yarn, cast on 29sts

Border ~

1st Row:  S1, knit to end of row

Repeat this row once more

Pattern ~

3rd Row:        S1, knit to end of row

4th Row:        S1, purl to last st, k1

5th Row:        S1, * s1, k1, psso, yo, repeat from * to last 2sts, k2

6th Row:        S1, purl to last st, k1

7th Row:        S1, knit to end of row

8th Row:        S1, purl to last st, k1

Repeat the last 4 rows once more

 
Work should now measure around 1½”

13th Row:       S1, knit to end of row

14th Row:       S1, purl to last st, k1

 
Shape Top ~

Next Row:      *K2, k2tog, repeat from * to last st, k1               (22sts)

Next Row:      S1, purl to last st, k1

Next Row:      *K1, k2tog, repeat from * to last st, k1               (15sts)

Next Row:      S1, purl to last st, k1

Next Row:      *K2tog, repeat from * to last st, k1                    (8sts)

Next Row:      S1, purl to last st, k1

 
Cut the yarn leaving a ‘tail’.

With a yarn needle, pull the yarn through all the remaining loops and secure

Sew up side seam and weave in ends.

Repeat the last two rows until work measures 1½”

Next Row:      S1, purl to last st, k1

Next Row:      S1, purl to last st, k1

Next Row:      *K1, k2tog, repeat from * to last st, k1               (15sts)

Next Row:      S1, purl to last st, k1

This pattern is amazing, and it came at the right time for Little H who is small but strong & I can't wait to gift these on to the family; I've so far knitted him 5 of your prem hats all in different sizes so as he grows he has another one there for him. Last thing a family with a prem baby needs to look around for hats to fit thank you for sharing these patterns.

  8. Thankyou for these patterns. I started knitting baby beanies from the kindness of my heart & have been doing all different sizes & colours. I just recently started doing two coloured beanies & are quickly learning more patterns as I go along. Thankyou.

  11. Brilliant and easy pattern for those precious little ones. During lockdown in the Covid pandemic I have knitted nearly 100 and will donate these to hospitals as soon as safe to do so. Also ideal for using up oddments of yarn after making sweaters and cardigans for my grand children.
